"God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds." — Genesis 1: 25

Nigh pet-friendly folks share their homes with one or two dogs or cats. So in that location are folks who become way across the boilerplate and add together some of God'south other critters to their collections considering they, like the critters, are unique.

One such unique person attended the aforementioned school as my sons, only a few grades behind them right on through high school in the '70s, merely I never really got to know her until I was referred by a friend to have our small dog clean-cut at her home.

This person, whom I refer to as wild child because there'southward probably merely i like her, is Donna Underwood Urato, a compassionate chatterbox who would give y'all the shirt off her own back. Donna grooms pets at All Near Pets on Hilton Head Isle, but she besides has a small building by her home that she uses to groom and bathe pets on the weekends. Never a dull moment when she's around.

When I first started using Donna every bit a groomer for my pups more than a dozen years agone, I knew she had pets of her ain, really four dogs and iii cats, considering she always dressed some of her critters in costumes at Halloween every yr.

She besides had in a fenced-off area by her dwelling a very wooly sheep named Clarabelle that lived to be xi years one-time and a beautiful auburn-coated equus caballus named Phaedra that lived to be 17 years quondam. Add together to that one squealing pig named Mary Jane, two ducks named Salty and Webster, and you have Old Mac Donna'southward Farm.

Well, she's added to this scenario three tarantulas, ane veiled chameleon and three hermit crabs. Granted, she does not suffer from arachnophobia!

Her pet tarantulas — a greenbottle blue named Genie, a Gooty sapphire named Metalica and a Martinique pinktoe named Houdini — are about 1 yr old. They each have their own individual aquarium decorated to suit their personalities, placed together in a greenhouse area with a controlled heat humidifier.

Believe it or not, in that location are more than 800 species of these spiders found on well-nigh all continents. They are becoming more popular as pets because they are docile, noiseless creatures that don't requite you whatever animadversion. They crave very footling space and are easy to care for. They can be handled, but with groovy care and then equally to not hurt them.

Donna'southward greenbottle bluish is one of the most colorful species of tarantulas effectually, with bright blue legs, a blue-greenish carapace and an orange abdomen. This colorful pet hales from Venezuela and with its hardy nature makes an ideal "beginner" tarantula.

Her Avicularia versicolor Antilles tree spider, likewise known equally the Martinique pinktoe, is another good choice for beginner hobbyists. This tarantula is a native of Guadeloupe and has magic-like color changes.

Her Gooty sapphire ornamental tarantula has incredible metallic bluish colorations and is a striking arboreal tree spider from India. They are producing exhilaration in hobbyists considering of their beauty, but they are also quite expensive.

Donna'south veiled chameleon is named Lestat because he always looks angry. When aroused, he puffs up and turns different colors. This little creature is native to Saudi arabia. He is able to look in any management without turning his caput considering each eye can swivel nigh 180 degrees and point in dissimilar directions at the aforementioned fourth dimension. Chameleons are sensitive animals and exercise non tolerate much handling.

His private cage with a spacious screened enclosure houses an automatic mister that mists for fifteen seconds every three hours, which supplies h2o he can drink from the leaves and branches considering veiled chameleons will not usually drinkable from a basin.

All of these unique pets are fed crickets, but they're not your regular yard crickets. They're farm-raised crickets that Donna gets from Lowcountry Exotics. I asked her if they were organic crickets, to which she replied with a express mirth, "No, just farm-raised."

To top it off, she has iii hermit crabs, which are decapods with 5 pairs of legs including a pair of claws, one larger than the other that is used for defence force and shredding. Donna named 1 of them Leonardo da Pinchi.

Equally hermit crabs grow, they require larger shells to move into. Taken care of well, a pet hermit crab tin live up to 20 years sometime. That's a lot of years of pinching!
